Dhyan Chand was an Indian hockey player. He was born on 29 August 1905 in Allahabad, United Province, British India.

He died on 3 December 1979 in Delhi. He discontinued his studies after completing class 6th.

His father’s name was Sameshvar Dutt Singh. He was a Subedar in Indian Army. His mother’s name was Sharda Singh. He had two brothers, Mool Singh, who was a police constable, and Roop Singh, who was also a hockey player.
